Wi-Fi for the Women's World Cup in Špindlerův Mlýn
The foundation of this collaboration was trust built during a previous project (the deployment of a Wi-Fi network for Ski Opening 2025 and 2026), which we successfully designed for Profinet s.r.o. Thanks to the positive experience with our technical approach, the quality of the proposed solution, and our support during the event, the client approached us again.
This time, the requirement was to ensure reliable data connectivity for one of the most prestigious FIS Alpine Ski World Cup women's races, held directly on the slopes in Špindlerův Mlýn.
The goal of the project was to provide reliable and high-performance Wi-Fi coverage not only for the event facilities but especially for the entire race slope. The network was primarily intended for media, journalists, and accredited broadcast teams.
FIS World Cup races place exceptionally high demands on network stability, capacity, and latency. The environment includes professional cameras, broadcast vans, and reporters transmitting video and data in real time directly to newsrooms around the world. Any connectivity outage in such conditions would have a direct impact on the event's media coverage.
A combination of outdoor and indoor models from the ECW series covered the slope and the event facilities, from the start to the finish area and press center.
Outdoor access point with IP67 rating and Wi-Fi 5 - thanks to pole mounting, it was an ideal choice for covering open sections of the slope.
Compact ceiling-mounted access point with Wi-Fi 5 Wave 2 - provided coverage for event facilities, the press center, and media areas.
Solution
The recommendation to use EnGenius technology was based on positive prior experience from similar events. Before implementation, we conducted a terrain analysis and a detailed assessment of operational requirements, which served as the basis for designing the optimal number and precise placement of access points. The goal was to achieve uniform, seamless coverage across the entire slope without dead zones or weak spots.
For outdoor access points, external sector antennas were deployed, significantly increasing both the range and directionality of the network in the challenging mountain environment.
Key factors in hardware selection included proven experience from the Ski Opening, the clear and intuitive interface of the EnGenius cloud platform, and the ease of centralized network management-even under the temporary and demanding conditions of an on-site event installation.
We Delivered
We provided hardware rental including mounting accessories, along with expert consultation from our certified Wi-Fi specialist. All configuration was prepared in advance to ensure that the on-site installation was as fast and seamless as possible.
The delivery, installation, and final setup of the EnGenius access points were tailored to the specific operational requirements of the event, including the configuration of separate SSIDs for different user groups.
The slope coverage was fully sufficient throughout the entire event, without a single outage. The network reliably handled hundreds of concurrently connected devices and transferred hundreds of gigabytes of data in the demanding conditions of a mountain environment.
